From glass plates to wooden cutlery, you will find what you need to create a colorful and unique dining experience that your guests will never forget. Ankara (not to be confused with the capital of Turkey) is a type of colorful, cotton fabric originally created with a wax resist technique. Ankara is the core of African fashion. In Loco-speak, we’ve turned Ankara “wears” into Ankaraware!
Mix and match patterns. Most dish sets are done by special order and take 3-4 weeks to complete. Many fabric choices are available. All dinnerware can be washed (hand washing is recommended). To learn more about Ankara, check out the Frequently Asked Questions tab at the top of this page.
Plates
Glass plates with textile backing are made for fun and elegant dining. Plates come in two sizes—dinner plates (11" diameter) and salad/desert plates (7" diameter). Some plates are ready for purchase online, but most are by special order. Color considerations will be accommodated. There are options for metallic rim accents (gold or silver). These plates are 100% functional but also great for display.
Bowls
You can mix textile patterns and bowl shapes. All glass bowls have a fabric backing and can be washed. Bowls are currently in limited supply, but inquire if you don’t see what you are looking for in the shop.
Cutlery
Sets of bamboo cutlery (fork-knife-spoon) are by special order. Samples are available online in the shop. These are lightweight, reusable utensils. Better suited for occasional use and/or display. If you wish to use on a frequent basis, buy in bulk.
